Between November 19 and 20, Black Consciousness Week was celebrated at the Quilombola Museum of Macambira, a community sponsored by Aliança, via the Culture Incentive Law, located in the vicinity of its Acauã Wind Complex, in Lagoa Nova (RN). The activities aimed to promote dialogue, combat racism, value local roots and preserve cultural heritage.
The program was full of actions aimed at Afro-Brazilian culture, reflection, resistance and celebration of this tradition, highlighting the protagonism and identity of the quilombola community.
On the first day, a picnic was held at the viewpoint, outdoor capoeira, body painting, guided tour of the museum, mamulengo workshop, conversation circle about black culture and diversity and maculelê presentation. A documentary was also shown, followed by a workshop on African masks, allowing each participant to learn about symbolism, colors and stories passed down through generations. The morning ended with a guided tour, which brought the public even closer to the memories and narratives of the community, in a moment full of discoveries and learning linked to local roots.
On the second day, the program began with an exhibition and experience in African masks, body painting, mamulengo workshop, launch of the film “Um Cordel de Memórias“ and cultural presentations by the dance group Balé Quilombola and the Caçuá group, from the João Redondo theater.
The afternoon was marked by music and exchange of experiences. Students from the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Municipal School were received, as well as representatives of the Education, Tourism, Agriculture, Health Council and the City Council of Lagoa Nova. The program included a cultural guitar presentation, expressing sensitivity through art.

Vilmário Cândido, president of the Association of Quilombolas of Macambira, highlighted the importance of the initiative: “I am very happy. These two years of Black Consciousness were very important for us, because, with this, we are developing and getting to know not only our own history, but also the history of the entire black population of the country. This year, more than 400 people passed through the community. We are very happy with the partnerships and sponsorship of Aliança Energia. This shows that we are an example that the partnership works. With the help of those who can support, everything develops.”
This week also connected to Aliança Energia’s actions to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 10 (Reduction of Inequalities) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

Aliança Energia understands that the Black Consciousness Week in the Macambira community represented a moment of recognition and rapprochement between different generations and cultural expressions. The activities broadened the view of the importance of quilombola history and the diversity that makes up the local identity, continuing to open paths and celebrate the richness of a culture that resists, creates and renews itself.
