The Risoleta Neves Hydroelectric Power Plant was inaugurated on September 7, 2004.

The plant is located in the Doce River Basin, closer to the headwaters of this river, which occupies an area of more than 83 thousand km² in the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.

The project is located between the municipalities of Rio Doce and Santa Cruz do Escalvado, in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais and has three generating units with an installed capacity of 140 MW.

The plant was named “Risoleta Neves Hydroelectric Plant” in honor of Risoleta Guimarães Tolentino Neves (1917-2003), wife of the former president of Brazil, Tancredo Neves (1910-1985).
