On the afternoon of August 18, the lecture “Respect on all paths: how to recognize and combat sexual harassment on the streets” was held, promoted by ENGIE Energia, through the Partnership for Good program. The activity is part of Aliança Energia’s actions in the fight against domestic and family violence against women. For the occasion, the company organized a welcoming space at the Dom José Delgado Municipal School, in the district of Manoel Domingos, where women from communities around the Acauã Wind Complex (RN) were gathered.
The initiative focused on preventing and combating sexual harassment. During the meeting, rights, ways to seek help and resources available to women who go through situations of violence were addressed
The lecture was conducted by Bia Diniz, CEO and founder of the social organization Cruzando Histórias, which works to empower women through employability, income generation and combating violence. Throughout the presentation, signs of sexual harassment, the impacts of this type of violence and the ways to report and access the protection network were discussed.
The meeting also included conversations and reports of situations experienced on a daily basis. The exchange of experiences showed how information can help in the identification of violence and in the search for support, in addition to highlighting the importance of creating spaces where women can circulate safely, autonomously and freely.
For Macioneide Lima, a resident of the Macambira II Community, a student of the Popular Defender Training and a social entrepreneur, the lecture brought information to recognize and deal with situations of violence and harassment.
“Participating in the lecture was very important for my life, as it strengthens us with information to recognize and know how to deal with situations of violence and harassment. Hearing about sexual harassment in the countryside is even more relevant, especially in territories where patriarchy is present and violence often remains silent.
We need to be equipped with information and know that there are women united, seeking to understand, prevent and face these situations. Sometimes, violence is not in our backyard, but it is by our side.”
The initiative is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN), with emphasis on SDG 5 – Gender Equality and SDG 17 – Partnerships and Means of Implementation.
Aliança Energia believes that the partnership between institutions and communities strengthens access to information on rights, prevention and protection network, contributing to more respectful relationships and the construction of environments in which women can exercise their autonomy and circulate more safely.
