In early May, the process of replacing the turbine rotor of the UG3 of the Funil HPP, in Perdões (MG), with more modern and efficient equipment, was completed. This move reinforces Aliança Energia’s commitment to updating assets and gaining operational efficiency.
The replacement of the UG3 turbine rotor brought efficiency gains and gave a new purpose to the plant’s old turbine. Instead of being discarded, the equipment was reused with a new purpose within the project, integrating the entrance to the plant as a prominent element.
In addition to the symbolic value, the company’s initiative has an educational function. The turbine exhibition allows students and visitors to have direct contact with a large piece of equipment, helping to understand, in a more concrete way, how a hydroelectric plant works.
The reused part is a Kaplan-type turbine, with approximately 58 tons, 5 meters in diameter and stainless steel blades, designed to operate with high efficiency in specific conditions of flow and waterfall.

According to Aliança’s O&M technician, Maurílio Felix, who closely followed the process:
“This project goes beyond the replacement of equipment and reinforces the intelligent use of assets. It shows our ability to evolve without losing the connection with our history. By modernizing Machine 3 and giving new meaning to the old turbine, we were able to transform an operational asset into a symbol of knowledge, memory and proximity to the community. It is proof that innovation and preservation can go hand in hand and generate value for all.”
As a result, Aliança expanded the memory value of the project, by creating a space that also preserves the history of the plant and promotes knowledge.
