Recognized with the 2nd place in Aliança Energia’s InoAção Program in 2023, the project “Implementation of Ecological Drinking Troughs for Animal Watering in the Santo Inácio Wind Complex and Gravier Wind Power Plant”, developed in the company’s projects in Ceará, completed two years of implementation in July 2026. The initiative demonstrates how innovation, environmental monitoring and conservation actions can contribute to the protection of biodiversity.

Conceived and developed by the company’s employees, the project aims to make water available to small and medium-sized animals of the local fauna, especially at times of the year when this resource becomes scarcer. In July 2024, 10 ecological drinking fountains were installed at the Santo Inácio Wind Complex (CESI) and at the Gravier Wind Power Plant, in previously defined areas, equipped with automatic rainwater replenishment and harvesting systems.

In addition to providing a source of hydration for the fauna, the equipment has monitoring cameras that allow the identification of species that circulate in the region, expand knowledge about local biodiversity and generate information that subsidizes the environmental preservation actions developed in the wind farms.

Over these two years, the monitoring recorded a great diversity of species. Birds represent 63% of the observations made, followed by mammals, with 28%, and reptiles, which correspond to 9% of the identified records.

The initiative was presented at two events promoted by ABEEólica, held in Rio Grande do Norte, in 2025, and in Ceará, in 2026. The meetings brought together representatives of the energy sector, companies, public agencies, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and environmental institutions, who recognized the initiative’s contribution to the conservation of fauna.

For Aliança Energia’s Environmental analyst and one of the members of the project, Rômulo Silva, the results show how innovative solutions can contribute to the improvement of the company’s operations.

“The project showed us what we already knew, that our parks have a huge variety of living beings, most of them endemic to the Caatinga, our biome, due to the immense preserved green area we have. However, it made us literally see these animals up close, in addition to providing them with a way to quench the thirst they suffer, especially in the second half of the year, a period when the rains cease in the region. The results were, and continue to be, surprising.”

The Aliança Energia project represents an example of how the integration between technical knowledge, innovation and commitment to the environment can generate new opportunities to improve practices and strengthen the relationship of the projects with the environment in which they are inserted.
