In a scenario of increasing complexity in the electricity sector, Aliança Energia has been strengthening its risk management as a central element of governance and business sustainability. On Wednesday, May 20, Aliança Energia held the II Risk Management Workshop at the Mercure Lourdes Hotel in Belo Horizonte. The meeting marked the beginning of the Annual Cycle of updating the company’s Risk Matrix and brought together Aliança Energia leaders and market experts.

The opening of the II Risk Management Workshop was conducted by the directors of Aliança Energia, Carlos Pavanelli and Paulo Cruz, together with the company’s risk and compliance manager, Frederick Teixeira.

The event also featured lectures that address the scenario of the sector, such as “Emerging trends and risks in the energy sector”, given by Rafaele Nicolotti and Pedro Lopes, directors of Alvarez & Marsal, expanding the company’s view of structural challenges in the energy industry.

One of the central axes of the meeting was the discussion on timely risk management, focusing on responsibilities and organizational responsiveness in a round table, led by Frederick Teixeira and which brought together Cristiane Schaefer, risk management consultant, and Daniel Lança, Director of Compliance, Ombudsman and DPO at GASMIG.

During the discussion, the importance of strengthening accountability and leadership protagonism was highlighted, with an emphasis on the clear definition of roles and responsibilities and agility in responding to risks, in addition to giving visibility to risks, even when they bring discomfort, emphasizing that transparency is essential for effective risk management.

At the round table, Frederick Teixeira reinforced that, in risk management, “the risk owner is the manager responsible for monitoring, controlling and responding to a certain risk within the organization. Aliança Energia believes that the continuous development of the risk management practice can generate relevant benefits for its business, and the risk owner has a fundamental role in this evolution.”

The workshop also promoted collaborative dynamics aimed at identifying risks and developing a risk management culture in the organization. Participants were able to exchange experiences and apply theoretical concepts in practical activities, such as the identification of new risks not covered in the matrix and critical analyses on the agglutination or segregation of existing risks.

After the dynamics, Sandro Magno, Aliança Hydroelectric Power Plant Manager, who gave a lecture on process risks, deepening the discussion and bringing practical examples from the operational area, highlighted: “today’s event was very important for Aliança to advance in the risk management maturity curve. In the activity we carried out, we were able to learn many things and observe various aspects of risks that we had not observed before.”

Thales de Oliveira Santos, Coordinator of Risks and Internal Controls, also reinforced the relevance of the practical activities by stating: “by carrying out the dynamics, the participants put into practice the theoretical knowledge acquired during the workshop and contribute to improving the processes of identification, assessment, monitoring and mitigation of the risks under their responsibility.”

The II Risk Management Workshop was consolidated as a space for learning and joint construction, evidencing Aliança Energia’s dedication to the continuous evolution of risk management and the advancement of organizational maturity.
