In the first half of 2026, Aliança Energia began the process of modernizing the Amador Aguiar I and Amador Aguiar II HPPs, located between Uberlândia and Araguari, in the Triângulo Mineiro (MG). The Amador Aguiar I HPP has an installed capacity of 240 MW and three Francis generating units, while the Amador Aguiar II HPP has 210 MW and three Kaplan generating units. The plants are part of the company’s generating complex, which holds an 87.4% stake in the consortium responsible for its management.

After almost two decades of operation, electrical and electronic systems have shown natural wear and technological obsolescence. The modernization was structured to ensure reliability, safety, operational performance, reduce failure rates and unavailability, in addition to ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements during the concession period.

The project provides for the updating of the digital systems of supervision and control, electrical protection and instrumentation of the generating units, water intakes and substations. The scope ranges from the development of the projects to the supply, installation and commissioning of the new systems, including operational training and spare parts.

Regarding the strategic relevance of the initiative, Walter Alves, manager at the Capim Branco Energia Consortium (CCBE), responsible for the operation of the plants, points out:

“The modernization project of the Amador Aguiar I and II HPPs marks a new stage in the trajectory of these plants. More than updating systems and equipment, this initiative prepares enterprises for the challenges of the coming decades, incorporating more advanced technologies and strengthening the conditions for an increasingly efficient and safe operation.

I am pleased to have participated in the construction of these plants about 20 years ago and now have the privilege of contributing to this important cycle of renewal. It is a project that reinforces our commitment to operational excellence, sustainability and the generation of clean and renewable energy for society.”

At the same time, mechanical renovations will be carried out at the Amador Aguiar II HPP, including measurement of runout and verticality of the generating units, the expertise of the servomotor, inspection and renovation of the gates and grilles of the water intake, replacement of seals, adjustments to the shaft and sealing skid, in addition to adjustments to the industrial water header.

These renovations will take place between 2026 and 2028, integrated with the scheduled shutdowns for electro-electronic modernization, optimizing interventions and reducing periods of unavailability.

With coordinated investments on the electro-electronic and mechanical fronts, the project advances in the technological updating of the plants, extending their useful life and ensuring greater operational reliability, as well as adequate conditions for the generation of energy with safety, efficiency and sustainability in the coming years.
