On September 23, Aliança Energia brought together about 35 children from the Dom José Delgado Municipal School, in Lagoa Nova (RN), a municipality neighboring the Acauã Wind Complex, to participate in an activity to implement a school garden. The action integrated the environmental education activities developed at the school and provided students with a practical experience of growing food.
Before putting their hands in the dirt, the Aliança Energia team talked to the students about the importance of vegetable gardens for food production, the preservation of the environment and the responsible use of natural resources. Then, the students went into practice, preparing the beds and planting the seedlings, with the monitoring of Verde Vida’s service providers, who work at the Acauã Wind Complex and supported the activity.
From the implementation, the garden becomes part of the school’s routine as a learning space. The beds can be used to work on topics such as science, the environment, food, collective responsibility and teamwork.
The initiative also creates opportunities for students to participate in the care of the space and collaboratively develop activities related to sustainability. By following the growth of the plants, they will be able to experience the different stages of cultivation and better understand how food is produced and reaches the table.

For Gerciana Silva, service provider in the Community Relations area of Aliança Energia, who accompanied the activity, the experience contributes to awakening in students a closer relationship with nature and showing that care for the environment can also be part of everyday life.
“More than learning about cultivation, students have the opportunity to follow the entire process and realize that small attitudes of care make a difference. It is an experience that encourages responsibility, participation and looking at sustainability in a way that is very close to their reality.”
The initiative is related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, with emphasis on SDG 4 – Quality Education.

Through environmental education, Aliança Energia creates opportunities for students to learn about caring for the environment, growing food and using natural resources responsibly. The garden becomes part of this process and can be followed by students over time, from planting to plant development.
