In celebration of Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, Aliança Energia promoted, throughout the month, a series of environmental education actions with students from the public school system of Rio Doce, a municipality neighboring the Risoleta Neves HPP (MG). Carried out in partnership with local schools and the company Cidadão da Mata, the activities addressed topics such as biodiversity conservation, conscious use of natural resources, proper disposal of waste and care for the environment.

With a diversified program, the initiatives brought students closer to the environmental reality of the municipality through playful and practical activities that encouraged participation and the exchange of knowledge.

On June 1st, the team was at the Coronel João José Municipal School with 92 students from the 1st to the 5th grade for an activity on the Environment, Biodiversity and Aurita Day. During the meeting, the importance of environmental preservation and the value of Aurita, a species recognized as a biodiversity heritage of the municipalities of Rio Doce and Santa Cruz do Escalvado, were worked on.

The students participated in conversation circles and a thematic domino with images of animals and plants in the region, expanding their knowledge about native species, their habitats and the importance of conserving local fauna and flora.

On June 8, 90 students from the 6th to the 8th grade of the Maria Amélia State School participated in an activity at the Citizen Space of the Forest. The action addressed the collection and correct disposal of waste through the “Game of Seven Errors – Find the Errors”. In an interactive way, students identified situations of improper disposal, reflected on their impacts and discussed sustainable practices that can be adopted in everyday life.

On June 9, it was the turn of 24 students from the Coronel João José Municipal School, aged between 8 and 9 years, to participate in the activity “Little Guardians of the Forest”, also held at the Citizen Space of the Forest.

The experiment involved the production of seedlings in reused Tetra Pak milk packages, encouraging the reuse of materials. The students prepared the substrate, planted seeds, participated in the planting of native species, knowing the importance of recovering local vegetation.

Closing the program, on June 18, an activity was held at the Municipal Center for Early Childhood Education (CMEI) Professor Lucília Lobo Pereira Martins, in Rio Doce, for about 60 children from 1 to 4 years old. With an approach appropriate to the age group, topics such as the Environment, planting of Ipê and Aurita Day were worked on.

The children participated in a puppet theater with the character Aurita, presented by the team of the company Cidadão da Mata, and in a conversation circle with songs and activities that stimulated care for nature from the first years of life.

The Aurita, also known as the dusky marmoset, is a small primate native to the Atlantic Forest. He has dark hair, a lighter face, small white tufts on his ears and a brownish band on the top of his head. The species lives in forest areas and is threatened with extinction.

For the pedagogical coordinator of CMEI, Thaís Carneiro Carvalho, the partnership contributes to children’s learning through practical experiences related to everyday life.

“The partnership promoted learning about caring for nature and aroused the interest of the children.”

Iany Albergaria, Community Relations analyst at Aliança Energia who accompanied the activities, also stressed the importance of the actions for the training of students.

“It was gratifying to follow the involvement of students and encourage sustainable attitudes.”

Aliança Energia’s initiatives are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with emphasis on SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 15 – Life on Land.

With these actions, Aliança Energia brings students closer to nature, showing, in a practical and participatory way, the importance of taking care of the environment. The expectation is that the learning experienced during the activities will be part of the students’ daily lives and inspire more sustainable attitudes.
