On July 23, Aliança Energia held the first “Wind Energy” workshops of the Environmental Education Program of the Acauã Wind Complex (RN) with 9th grade students from the municipal network of São Vicente and Lagoa Nova, neighboring municipalities to the project. The activities addressed wind energy, a renewable source that uses the force of the winds to generate electricity without emitting polluting gases.

The workshops took place at the Inácio Félix Municipal School, in the Baixa do Sítio community, in São Vicente, with the participation of nine students, and at the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Municipal School, in the Buraco de Lagoa community, in Lagoa Nova, bringing together 18 participants.

The electrical engineer and O&M supervisor of Aliança Energia, Leydson Xavier, led the activities. During the meetings, he presented the evolution of electricity throughout history, explained how wind energy generation works and showed how wind turbines transform wind power into electricity. The students clarified doubts and discussed the role of renewable sources in the Brazilian energy matrix.

Aliança Energia’s Environmental Education Program also includes a technical visit to the Acauã Wind Complex and practical workshops, which complement the content presented in the classroom. The program will continue at the Dom José Delgado schools, in Lagoa Nova, and Silvino Garcia do Amaral, in Tenente Laurentino Cruz.

For the student of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Municipal School Alanderson Pereira dos Santos, the workshop was an opportunity to learn more about wind energy and its contribution to the environment:

“Participating in the theoretical workshop on wind energy was a very interesting experience. I learned how the force of the winds can be transformed into clean and renewable energy, contributing to the preservation of the environment. The workshop expanded my knowledge and aroused even more my interest in topics related to sustainability and renewable energies.

According to the Director of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Municipal School, Sandra Daniele Oliveira, the initiative reinforces the importance of the partnership between school, community and environmental education actions:

“This initiative strengthens the relationship between school and community, expands the knowledge of our students and contributes to the formation of citizens who are more aware of the importance of sustainability and renewable energy sources. We believe that partnerships like this enrich the teaching and learning process and leave a legacy of knowledge for the entire school community.”

The action of Aliança Energia is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, with emphasis on SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 17 – Partnerships and Means of Implementation.

With this initiative, Aliança Energia brings adolescents closer to environmental issues, encourages the preservation of the environment, strengthens the relationship with the communities surrounding its projects and promotes knowledge about the renewable energy sector.
